Since Taiwan joined the WTO, the internationalization and liberalization of world trades definitively will form
impacts on Taiwan's local agriculture and fishery. In order to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic
industry, Taiwan government rather positively in developing key industries which have world superiority in
opposition. Among these industries, the aquaculture seedlings and live fish with high economic value are
a few items that Taiwan has international competitiveness. Whereas, there still have some obstructions
influence the competitiveness of aquaculture seedlings and live fish exportation, such as high air freight
cost and low transporting volume.
In view of these obstructions, the Taiwan government decided to invest and build the An Pin Live Fish Center.
And hope in the future, the aquaculture seedlings and live fish with high economic value can gather up and
deal with in this center and finally export to Hong Kong, Mainland China, Northeast and Southeast Asia via live
fish transporting ship. Besides, this center also can serve as a small-scale aquaculture seedlings stocking
and packing farm and export via air flight to increase the seedlings' quality and survival rate.
After long-term continuously developing, the aquaculture industry in Taiwan has become an industry
composed of division of labors and management. Hence the exportation of live fish and seedlings will be the
future trend of aquaculture industry of Taiwan. The basic plan of this center is intended to integrate the
numerous, small-scale aquaculture farms into a large-scale, systemic unit to increase the competitiveness
of aquaculture products after Taiwan joining the WTO. The final target is to become the aquaculture seedlings
supplying center of Asia Pacific Zone, and then actualize international vertical division of labor and integrate
the aquaculture seedlings production, fish culture and market passageway. And finally, makes Taiwan the
most important aquaculture seedlings supplying country in Asia Pacific Zone. |
